Colour Class #4 — The dual personality of a modern home office
For the fourth instalment of our Colour Class, we return to the captivating home of Céline, the founder of Color Connaisseur, situated in a listed apartment right next to Nyhavn in Copenhagen.
The mission was to craft a home office seamlessly blending with the home's warmth, achieving a delicate balance between office functionality and homely vibes. This space is versatile, effortlessly transitioning from a snug meeting haven brimming with inspiration to a canvas for experimenting with various paint colours. Meeting these diverse needs required ample storage, concealing the myriad purposes this room would serve. In this class, we unveil the dual personality of a modern home office, demonstrating that even seemingly "boring" colours can be captivating when strategically placed within the overall design.
The mission was to craft a home office seamlessly blending with the home's warmth, achieving a delicate balance between office functionality and homely vibes.
Location: The home of Céline, founder of Color Connaisseur, in a listed apartment right next to Nyhavn in Copenhagen.
Mission: The mission was to create a home office that didn't immediately read as an office but was an equal part of the home with homely vibes. Simultaneously, it needed to be flexible, serving as a cosy meeting space one day with plenty of inspiration in the form of magazines and books and then transforming the next day into a space for testing various paint colours. Hence, there was a requirement for ample storage to conceal the many purposes.
Colours: The room's primary purpose is to work with colours and interior design. To avoid issues with colour reflections from large surfaces like walls and ceiling, the walls and woodwork are painted in a light grey, and the ceiling is given a classic muted blue.
Adding a touch of interest, the entrance double door is painted in cream white against the light grey woodwork, creating a subtle pop. The flooring's warm lacquer adds vibrancy, especially allowing the large Montana storage unit to stand out. Comprising various drawers and open/closed spaces in four colours, including the tranquil and textured White Oak, the Montana furniture brings calmness and texture.
The three other modules in different brown shades, coupled with the warm floor tone, create a cosy and serene atmosphere. The neutral base colours provide room for the rest of the space to be filled with a plethora of colours, all harmonising with existing elements, like the green base of the table and Kevi chair in a similar calm tone.
This room showcases how seemingly "boring" colours can be intriguing based on their strategic placement within the overall design.
