Montana Free — The Teklan Edition
Montana launches a new collaboration with colourist and photographer Tekla Evelina Severin who has curated two new colours for the Montana Free shelving system. Explore Tekla’s daring combinations of cheerful colours in a pure expression of joy.
Since colours are always relative and never absolute, I find it endless exciting to search and find new colour dialogues, new combinations.
Built on the freedom to change
Montana Free is crafted to last – yet designed for change. Move it around, expand it and add textile panels in eight different colours to create personalised screens between rooms, and alter the transparency of the shelving as desired. Display your dearest memories and share them with someone. Montana Free is not just a piece of furniture; it’s a big, open canvas.
The shelving system has all the marks of Montana’s unique DNA and the high quality you would expect. It was originally designed by the award-winning Danish designer Jakob Wagner.

Meet Tekla Evelina Severin
Colourist and photographer Tekla Evelina Severin lives south of the island Södermalm in central Stockholm. In the midst of endless forest and nearby the small Söderbysjön lake, Tekla lives with her boyfriend in a 65 sq. m. big rental apartment only a bike ride away from the vibrant city center.
To Tekla it’s very important with a colourful interior, and she states that it’s general for all human beings; "it’s part of our heritage, and the most stressful non-colour is actually white, since it isn’t natural for us as humans." Tekla feels inspired and comfortable, cheerful and alive when she surrounds herself with colours. She loves observing the changing scenery the colours offer during the day and all the new shades they reproduce in different lighting.
Playful compositions
Montana Free consists of 12 compositions that you can choose with an optional interposed shelf. The compositions range in size and function from the smallest design: a two-shelf bench that can fit under a window – to the largest solution: a six-shelf unit perfect as both an airy and decorative room divider or a spacious shelving unit placed against a wall.
Optional, vertical textile panels are available for the shelving system and allow you to play with colours and expressions, create personalised screens between rooms, and alter the transparency of the shelving as desired.

Interior architect and photographer
Tekla trained as an interior architect before taking to Instagram to express her frustration with the dominance of bland beige and grey tones in the interiors around her.
Since 2012, her Instagram profile @teklan has been a paean to colour, line and shape. Abstract images, still lifes and wallpaper compete for attention in a grid that readily reminds the viewer of the sheer joy of colour.
