About Montana — Let's create playful spaces

The family-owned Montana Furniture has provided generations with personalized storage solutions, since 1982. The Danish high-end furniture company was established by Peter J. Lassen, who also created the modular Montana System. Today, the company is run by Peter’s son Joakim Lassen, who is the fifth generation of his family to work with furniture and the great-grandson of manufacturer Fritz Hansen.

As a sculptor starts with an abstract stone, I started with an abstract square box. I removed all the unnecessary parts of the box so that it eventually featured rounded edges, missing corners and retracted fronts, Montana's design DNA.

A poetic range of 41 Montana colours

Montana’s functional and flexible system is featured in a range of 41 poetic and complex colours developed in close collaboration with the award-winning Danish designer and colour expert Margrethe Odgaard.

Colours mean everything. Ambience. Atmosphere. Identity. Colours are paramount in our design. We want to influence and inspire the world of interiors with our take on colours. Bright and light. Dense and deep. There is a colour for any purpose.

Danish design – produced in Denmark

All Montana modules are designed, developed and made in Denmark. Every day, in a small town on the island of Funen over 140 professionals work hard to uphold the highest standards of processing, painting and assembling – making sure that your Montana furniture will last a lifetime.

Since 2007, Montana has exclusively used water-based lacquer colours, which does not contain any solvents harmful to you or the environment.

The Montana System carry the Danish Indoor Climate Label, and the company was one of the first furniture brands in Europe to hold the official European certification EU Ecolabel. The label applies to the entire Montana System – and includes all furniture made from MDF.

Peter J. Lassen — among admirable architects

From an occupation in the Danish navy, Peter J. Lassen turned to a career in the furniture industry in 1954. Working with famous architects Arne Jacobsen, Jørn Utzon, Piet Hein and Verner Panton, Lassen’s association with these is undoubtedly marked in the clean lines of his design.

Today, in addition to Peter J. Lassen’s and Joakim Lassen’s own designs, Montana produces tables and chairs designed by Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Schmidt Hammer Lassen and Jakob Wagner.
